Jefferson High School receives MASSP innovation award

Jefferson High School received a Minnesota Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP) Gold Star of Innovation Award for initiatives that positively impact a school environment.

The Jaguar Proud project is a photo display designed to celebrate and recognize every student enrolled at Jefferson High School. Each student photo includes a unique, positive comment written by a staff member. Staff initiated the project as part of building an inclusive and positive school culture and climate. The staff achieved their goal of recognizing all 1,682 students.

“High school can be hard. Some students don’t feel recognized, valued or feel they belong. We wanted every student to know that we do recognize them, we do value them,” said Jefferson High School principal Jaysen Andersen.

“Our teachers and staff were highly committed to this project,” Andersen said. “Thinking and viewing all students in a positive manner had a major impact on how we view our roles and position.”

A local news station highlighted the Jaguar Proud project earlier this spring.
