Jefferson, Kennedy theatre companies honored at Spotlight Awards

Jefferson and Kennedy high school theatre programs are Spotlight Musical Theatre Program honorees for their productions of “Hello, Dolly” and “Beauty and the Beast,” respectively. The awards are presented through the Hennepin Theatre Trust.

The schools and students will be honored at the Spotlight Showcase June 11-12 at The State Theatre. Jefferson is scheduled to perform during the June 11 showcase with Kennedy performing June 12.



Jefferson’s “Hello, Dolly” received outstanding recognition in the categories of technical crew, student orchestra and overall technical team. The production received honorable mention in the categories of overall production, overall performance, ensemble performance, movement/dance performance by an ensemble, light and sound board operators, vocal performance by an ensemble and acting performance by an ensemble.

Jefferson’s Jillian Sjoquist is a finalist for the Triple Threat Award, and Alexa Schirber (Dolly Levi) and Sjoquist (Irene Malloy) received awards for outstanding performance in a leading role, while Jack Wisnieski (Barnaby Tucker) and Tom Rajucla (Rudolph Reisenweber) received honorable mention for performance in a supporting role. Stage managers Em Bonney, Mina Hammer and Greg Kohler received awards for outstanding technical leadership.



Kennedy’s “Beauty and the Beast” received honorable mention in the categories of overall technical team and vocal performance by an ensemble.

Kennedy’s Johanna Engebretson (Belle) received an award for outstanding performance in a leading role, while Isaiah Heege (Lumiere) received an award for outstanding performance in a supporting role. Jennifer Tincher (Mrs. Potts), Dylan Taylor (LeFou) and Danny Vazquez (Gaston) received honorable mention for performances in supporting roles.
