Bloomington Jefferson High School senior Alexa Schirber qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) National Tournament this summer in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

Schirber advanced to the final rounds in both humorous and dramatic interpretation at the national qualifying meet, placing second and fourth respectively. Since students may only compete in one event at the national level, Schirber will compete in her preferred event of drama.
She will join Jefferson junior Bella Phan at the national tournament, who qualified in congressional debate in the fall.
Phan also placed third in original oratory at the 6AA section tournament earlier this month, which qualified her for the MSHSL Class AA State Speech Tournament at Apple Valley High School in April. Schirber qualified as first alternate to state in the humorous category.
