Rich Bird

Bird is a 1965 graduate of Bloomington High School where he was a two-year letter winner in football and track. He also won all conference honors on the gridiron. Bird also earned athletic letters at Wayne State College in 1965 and Mankato in 1967. After college, Bird coached numerous Bloomington Athletic Association (BAA) teams and served as a volunteer football coach at Kennedy High School in 1965. He became Lincoln High School’s football and track coach (1969-70) before coaching football, track and baseball at Jefferson from 1970-2001. He also served as Jefferson’s Athletic Coordinator from 1998 to 2006. He was awarded the Butch Nash Assistant Football Coach-of-the-Year in 1989 from the State High School Football Coaches Association. Bird co-founded and organized the Jefferson Football Golf Tournament for 12 years, helping to raise over $38,000 for student scholarships. He continues to work part-time as a sports coordinator and supervisor for the City of Bloomington.
