2015 JHS Senior Party - Register & Volunteer Now!

The 2015 JHS senior party will be held immediately following the graduation ceremony on Monday, June 1, 2015. Only registered graduates, administrators, and party volunteers will be allowed into the school during party hours.

Jefferson student advances to national debate tournament

Bloomington Jefferson High School senior Brendan Klein qualified for the National Speech and Debate Association’s National Tournament, to be held June 14-20 in Dallas, Texas. Klein qualified at the district tournament earlier this month in the House category of Congressional Debate, marking the fourth consecutive year a Jefferson team member has qualified for the national tournament. 
 
The national tournament will host the top competitors from 110 district tournaments across the country. Qualifiers will compete for college scholarships in 11 events: Policy Debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Congressional Debate - House, Congressional Debate - Senate, Original Oratory, United States Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Humorous Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, and Duo Interpretation.

Bloomington’s 2015 Athena Award winners named

Kate Deming is the 2015 Athena Award winner for Bloomington Jefferson. Each year, the award recognizes an outstanding high school senior female athlete. Recipients of the Athena Award are selected based on both team and individual excellence in sports, school and community involvement. Deming will be honored with athletes from more than 50 metro area schools at the 43rd annual Athena Awards luncheon on May 1.    
 
Deming has participated in soccer, basketball and softball over her Jefferson athletic career. She earned all-conference honors in soccer and was named all-conference, all-section and all-state in softball last year. She serves as a captain on the softball team this year. Deming has earned two letters in soccer, three in basketball and four in softball.

ACADEMIC LETTERING POLICY 2014-2015

Bloomington Schools recognize the value that our community places in the area of academic achievement.  Students earn letters in many school programs and upon meeting certain qualifications, will be able to earn a Bloomington letter for academic achievement.
Criteria:
  1. Students must be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior.
  2. Students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above.
  3. Students will be eligible to letter once each year, after completing the 2nd Trimester during that year.
  4. When Trimester 2 grades are posted and report cards sent, students meeting the criteria will  receive a letter award that will be presented at an awards program during Trimester 3.

***Please note***: Students will no longer need to apply for an academic letter.  Letters will automatically be awarded.

Bloomington education foundation accepting Prodigy nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the Education Foundation of Bloomington (EFB) 2015 Prodigy Awards, which recognize teamwork that improves the educational environment. Nomination forms are due by 4 p.m. on Friday, April 24 and can be found at www.educationfoundationofbloomington.org/prodigy.  Click on the heading above for more information. 

Bloomington schools to start new school year before Labor Day

Bloomington Public Schools’ 2015-16 school year will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 1 and end on Friday, June 3, 2016. The pre-Labor Day start was approved by the school board following a recommendation by the district’s calendar committee.
